Knowing in order to evolve

Corporate social responsibility requires a constant effort to ensure ever greater maturity in the relations between the company and all its stakeholders, based on an ethical and transparent posture.  Evolving, in a positive and pro-active manner, should therefore be a constant investment of companies.

This is one of the best opportunities for companies in Minas and other states to exchange experiences, learn about new practices and assimilate the necessary knowledge to consolidate socially responsible management.  The 7th Open Seminar in Minas Gerais – Corporate Social Responsibility – IV International Meeting, seeks to demonstrate at a time of global turbulence, how sustainability can be transformed into an innovative alternative, capable of renewing the economy, preserving the environment and preventing the worsening of social problems.

The 7th Open Seminar in Minas Gerais – Corporate Social Responsibility - IV International Meeting is held thanks to an initiative by the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG), and will feature a broad discussion among domestic and international specialists, business leaders, journalists and representatives of civil society, seeking to closely examine the issues and practices for sustainable development.

Conscientious companies must move from reflection towards action, from discourse to practice.  In plenary sessions and round tables, participants will have the opportunity to share experiences and define responsibilities, strategies and concrete actions to promote sustainability, an indispensable mission to balance the current economic, social and environmental needs of humanity.

"An essential characteristic of sustainable development refers to long term vision. This requires the vision of at least one generation. The Action itself can have a shorter term, but its consequences must be lasting in the timeline."

Antônio Rocha Magalhães, Senior Consultant for Brazil at the World Bank, speaker at the 6th Open Seminar in Minas Gerais – Corporate Social Responsibility - 2007

A new world

Innovation has become the word of the day. In a scenario of instability, uncertainties and challenges, imposed by one of the most serious economic crises ever experienced by humanity, seeking out the new has become an urgent and necessary strategy for companies throughout the world.

Indicated by specialists, observers and businessmen as an effective strategy to balance economic, social and environmental relations, sustainability gains strength and appears as an innovative alternative, a viable and opportune path to generate the transformation of a new society.

In Brazil, and especially in Minas Gerais, FIEMG System intends, with the 7th Open Seminar in Minas Gerais – Corporate Social Responsibility - IV International Meeting, to showcase the creativity, responsibility and contribution of companies to the construction of a sustainable global economy, a new model of doing business, producing, consuming, and relating, which involves a balance between respect for life and success in business.

“We are seeking a broad concept of sustainability that involves, in addition to production, commitment to ethics, responsible consumption, healthy competitive practices, environmental conservation, improvement of human resources, appropriate relations with all segments of the community, financial security, respect for the law and appreciation of democracy. We understand that this is the appropriate way to build the common good.”

Robson Braga de Andrade – President of the FIEMG System
